Penn Relays-4/28/12
David Zartler, Stewart Reich, Angel Melendez and Jabari Chambers performed at a high level on the biggest track and field stage on the east coast. The above men ran two seconds off their personal best on a cold day. They had a long wait in the bull pen but competed the same way they did all season. They hung in there as a team, trading positions back and forth in every leg. Dave was on a huge stagger on the 10 lane track when he started off the relay. Stew and Angelo have been exciting all season to watch run and both brought the fight to the other runners on the second and third legs of the race. Jabari had the most challenging job, anchoring at the Penn Relays in front of a stadium full of spectators. He finished the last turn of the race with class and speed. Jabari lead the team down the final stretch into Goldey-Beacom history as the first relay to compete at the Penn Relays. Goldey's time of 3:33 outpaced other CACC teams such as Holy Family (3:38) and Philadelphia University (3:40) in the college 4x400.
Thank you to all the men in the race. You made your coach very proud.

A New Star-10/23/11
Goldey-Beacom finishes a successful conference meet with strong packs on both the men’s and the women’s teams. The packs were lead by two rising stars.
Sophomore Carly Michell stole the show at the CACC conference cross country meet this weekend for the Lightning. She eclipsed the course PR’s of teammates Liz Williams (40 second), Symone Stewarts (43 second) and Alyssa Murray (37 seconds). With the addition of Carly’s 4 minute and 2 second course PR they all improved 6:02. Liz lead the team into the finish with a time of 22:41 and was followed by the pack of Carly at 24:53, Symone (24:57) and Alyssa (25:31). Carly moved onto the 5k All Time List at Goldey-Beacom and is now the 15th fastest women to run for GBC. Tigan Frizby was the fifth women on the team with a time of 28:31. The women finished the meet in 11th place only 13 points behind Holy Family but well ahead of Caldwell and Concordia.
The men’s team was lead by freshman Angelo Melendez in 20th place with a time of 29:41. Four of his teammates finish within 1mintue and 40 seconds of him. This left Goldey with a super tight pack and in the fight for a good score at the conference meet. Stewart Riech a sophomore finished steps behind Angelo with a time of 29:49. Another group came in a minute later. Ben Kinley (30:55), Hugo Morales (31:03) and Dan Weyant (31:21) completed the pack and started a battle in team scoring. The final two spots on the men’s team were Paul Graybeal at 32:36 and David Zartler finishing at 33:14. After the race, Coach Conley felt strong about a 5th place finish over all and maybe a 4th for the Lightning men. The team’s place came down to just a few points. Goldey-Beacom slipped back to 7th only 4 points away from 6th place Nyack and 19 points would have put them all the way up to 4th place ahead of Bloomfield. The men have the daunting task of going all the way to the last meet of the season to prove themselves worthy with their peers in the conference. Whether you lost by 4 points or 19 points its still a loss. So they travel to one more race in Boston to prove they are the superior team.
Lady lightning pull together for great performance
The college’s homecoming weekend started off with the seasons best performance from the women's cross country team. They defeated five teams finishing 5th place at the meet. The team worked together with fast splits from each runner. The team held off Caldwell and Essex by about 20 points and fell short of catching Bloomfield by 25 points. In two weeks at the CACC meet Goldey -Beacom should be taking aim on beating the Deacons. The women are improving every week. This week Coach Conley told 5th runner on the team Tigan Frisby that the team’s success depends on her strong finish. Tigan pulled through for her teammates and brought new runner Shanay Snead along for the fast finish. They both finished with their best races of the year. Carly Mitchell and Alyssa Murray both took huge amounts of time off of their finishing times from last year. Together they took off 4 minutes which improved the teams score the most for the team. Symone Stewart is having a late season run at her best times. Her practices have been strong this week and the quickness of her feet at the home meet, hopefully makes this her turning point for the season. Liz Williams finished first for the lightning and had a new school home course record but that not why she was smiling at the end of the race. Liz finished the race and then cheered in a fast Goldey-Beacom team competing for her and each other.

All Time Team : Morales, Kinley, Graybeal, Zartler and Reich
The 10th year of men’s cross country at Goldey-Beacom College lived up to its exciting start. At this weekends NCAA DII meet the top five men make the All Time Team: Stewart 5th, Ben 9th, Hugo 10th, Paul 13th and David 16th fastest in Goldey-Beacom history. This was an amazing finish to the season for the men. The challenge of the NCAA regional meet is going head to head with the best runners in the North Atlantic states. The men's team looked forward to the challenge. In their minds no team runs harder then them. They have run every mile and every interval at a pace fast enough to be considered the best. The team’s Attitude all year affected the outcome of this meet and the stellar season which finished with two team invitational titles and the overall second fastest team in school history. The only team that was faster then them was the 2003 conference champions. Coach Conley thinks the team is on the precipice of something very big. Each individual feels as though they control the future of next year’s team.
